General Manager

POSITION OVERVIEW: The General Manager (GM) reports to the Crowchild Twin Arena Association Board of Directors specifically the President. The GM is responsible for the overall operation of the association and oversees all aspects of the business including staff, ice scheduling, lifecycle planning, budgeting and financial planning and acts as liaison between staff and board of directors.

 

Key Priorities

Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, government officials and agencies and community associations;

Ice scheduling and user contracts;

Overseeing operational/lifecycle planning, budgeting and expenditures;

Staying informed on and applying for Govt. grant opportunities;

Making well informed day to day decisions on the operation of the facility.

 

DUTIES- Include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for booking and scheduling of ice times, tournaments, and room rentals, setting up contracts and payment plans with renters;
  • Work with the Board of Directors on strategic and operational planning for the facility;
  • Preparation of yearly financial budgets;
  • Staying informed on available grants and financial assistance available to the association;
  • Applying for said grants, ensuring funds are tracked and dispersed properly and all necessary reporting is completed;
  • Arrange, attend, and present at monthly board meetings;
  • Creation, maintenance, application, enforcement and documentation of arena management policies, operating procedures, and practices;
  • Ensure all staff are properly trained on equipment use and maintenance;
  • Liaise and maintain strong relationships with municipal and provincial officials and other stakeholders;  
  • Plan, organize and recruit volunteers for the charity casino;
  • Schedule and approve all staff hours of work;
  • Complete bi weekly payroll for all employees;
  • Direct day to day assignments and interactions with staff;
  • Responsible for hiring and coaching of all employees
  • Complete annual reports (charity, casino, web etc.) as needed;
  • Approve all facility expenditures in accordance with Board guidelines;
  • Answer phones, emails as needed;
  • Receive and resolve any customer/patron complaints;
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate risk to the association; 
  • Foster and maintain a positive and collaborative work environment, with staff, volunteers and the Board of Directors.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 years relevant management experience;
  • Previous experience at a non-profit considered an asset;
  • Previous experience in recreational facilities considered an asset;
  • Strong knowledge of ice making techniques and ice maintenance
  • Knowledge of equipment repairs and usage
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal;
  • Must be flexible with schedule and willing to be available after hours and weekends for events/emergencies;
  • Strong leadership skills;
  • Strong understanding of financial practices;
  • Intermediate computer skills and familiarity with the Office suite of products;
  • Candidate must pass criminal and vulnerable sector record check.
