About the Position
This key position will drive the coordination and execution of on-deck operations and programming, including: scheduling, staff training/orientations, instructor & lifeguard in-services, assist with rotations, and continually evaluate the variety of aquatic programming. The Aquatic Supervisor(s) will provide assistance to the Aquatic Manager with financial planning of the aquatic budget, programming and special events. This position oversees the safe and consistent daily operation of the aquatic centre, recreation swimming, and programming, working closely and collaboratively with other departments such as Guest Services, Programs, Fitness, Health & Safety, Operations, and Marketing.
Job Type: Full-Time Permanent (benefits-eligible) – weekday daytimes & evenings/weekends required
Specific responsibilities:
• Responsible for coordinating, and assisting in the facilitation of aquatic staff training, inservices, scheduling, programs/lessons, and day-to-day mentoring towards a safe and customer service-oriented environment, in alignment with the values and cross-functional goals of SLSFSC.
• Responsible for staff scheduling, with focus on staff & patron safety, superior customer service, and optimal efficiency.
• Long term planning for various scheduling/staffing requirements such as peak periods, holidays, and events.
• Assist Aquatic Manager in developing and conducting formal and informal performance evaluations with staff, including year-round performance management (such as on-the-spot coaching) and annual reviews.
• Supervise and assist aquatic staff with the development, delivery, and execution of aquatic programs and special events for children, adults, youth and seniors.
• Assist in the development and administration of all aquatic operations and programs, within operational and industry guidelines, to ensure a maximum level of aquatic centre utilization.
• Track and report Aquatic expenses for rescue and training equipment, public education resource materials and public equipment and supplies
• Assist in the development of departmental budgets and budget tracking.
• Establish, communicate, enforce and adhere to policies and procedures and Aquatic best practices related to operations, equipment, lifeguarding and instructing, such as OHS, AHS, Alberta pool standards & regulations, and LSS standards.
• Supervise and mentor all aquatic staff with an emphasis on skill development, safety, customer service, and professionalism within the department, with an ultimate goal of succession planning and providing growth opportunities to staff.
• Teach leadership courses and re-certifications, as required.
• Support on-deck coverage when needed.
• Assist instructors with lessons, student or parent-related challenges.
Other relevant duties and/or projects as assigned, which may include: assisting with staffing schedule/timesheet approvals, interviewing and recruitment, editing of program schedules, updating the Aquatic Safety Plan and other department documentation.
• In the absence of the Aquatics Manager, the Aquatics Supervisor will step in to attend important meetings, attend to incidents/emergencies, or follow-up on staffing issues as required.
• Other duties as assigned or required.
• When operating at full capacity, at the discretion of the Manager who ultimately assigns the portfolio of tasks, this may be the division of duties:

• Facility Inspections
• Maintaining the Aquatic Safety Plan
• Coordinating Pool Schedules
• Managing basic pool operations: water testing, water samples, contaminations, etc.
• Coordinating Aquatic Bookings: sport partner schedules,swim meets & special events, day camps, school groups, birthday parties
• Coordinating timing system contractors
• H&S Incident follow-up

Qualifications:
• 3 - 5 years’ related leadership experience in an aquatic environment (including staff supervisory duties, and teaching swim lessons and advanced leadership courses)
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Post-Secondary education in a related or applicable field considered an asset
• Intermediate First Aid with CPR C/AED (required)
• Preference may be given to applicants with these current certifications:
o Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard
o Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor
o Lifesaving Society First Aid Instructor
o Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Instructor
o Pool Operator
o Lifesaving Society Trainer
• Additional certifications are considered an asset – AFLCA Aquatic Specialty, Lifesaving Society Sport Coach, Lifesaving Society Community Official, etc.
• Basic knowledge of Alberta Public Health Act Public Swimming Pools Regulation, Alberta Health Public Health & Compliance Pool Standards, Lifesaving Society Alberta Public Pool Safety Standards, and Aquatic Industry best practices
• Basic computer skills, including experience with MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

• Required availability (this position will require evening and weekend shift work, dependent on business)
